Matt.

I found your info directly through FaceBook itself... by searcing FaceBook in the FaceBook search.

For all that "FaceBook"ing... To say that you aren't affiliated with FaceBook is a stretch, considering that FaceBook promotes you, and that you do whatever it is you do for FaceBook.

Granted, you may not work directly for Mark Zuckerberg, but your association with FaceBook is tight enough that your protestations of the ignorance of others is hardly founded.

Even more importantly, FaceBook itself should be aware of your words and deeds, considering that you bandy their brandname about as much as you do. If I were Mark Zuckerberg, I wouldn't want you as my representative, accidentally or no.

@Will - I get dozens of emails per day from people who don't seem to understand that Facebook-Developer.net is not associated with Facebook.com, despite the fact that it's clearly spelled out on the website. It's not difficult to see that the two sites are not related, if not from the entire design of the site, then from the content of the site itself.

How you came across my website and thought that I was a contact person for Facebook is beyond me. I'm guessing you just made a Google search for something like "facebook contact" and just guessed that one of the results there would be what you're looking for without even taking the time to make sure of it. If that's the case, then by that logic, clicking the link for one of the results of "contact god" will definitely send my message to god.

Having my inbox overrun by emails from people who don't understand how the Internet works day in and day out is frustrating. I typically don't offer a response to these emails, choosing to delete them instead. However, since I received at least 3 emails relating to this Hillary group in the span of a day, I decided to respond in order to inform you that I am not a Facebook contact. In doing so, my response that had nothing to do with your question was synonymous to your question having nothing to do with my website.

For future reference, please check the Facebook help pages for contact details:

Hope this helps.

How unhelpful.

The funny thing is that the front page of that site links to a featured article from Matt complaining about Facebook's unresponsiveness to his -- and app developers' in general -- problems. What a great example of techie privilege.

Here's the response I got when turning to the webmaster of "Facebook Developer" for help:

it's certainly possible to get around it, but blocking by IP address is somewhat useful for discouraging what I'd call "casual trolls" -- they're likely to go someplace where it's harder to block them. and coincidentally or not, right after we started discussing this upcoming new functionality, two of the biggest multi-account trolls disappeared for a while.

in any case, though, my point was that it'll look real bad for Facebook if it turns out that they implemented a feature at the Obama group's request -- while ignoring a bug fix that was important for the Clinton group. it's been really vital for the Obama group to add moderators [who have been doing an excellent job]; it's really unfair if the Clinton group hasn't had the same opportunity.

"Then again, a couple of months ago Facebook did tell one of the Obama group members that they were going to introduce a mechanism to ban an IP address, not just a profile, from a group in response to our requests for help dealing with repeated trolls"
